Imagine a world where you had no problem communicating with anyone. Right now to me that sounds amazing. I’ve always been afraid to go to other countries because of the thought that I wouldn’t be able to communicate over there. I know enough Spanish to get by, but other than that it is all English for me. How would I be able to communicate with the locals over in France? I had always questioned this, but now it seems that English is becoming the “lingua franca.”
To me this is a great thing. I would love for there to only be one language in the world. It would make things so much easier. You never have to question or put bits and pieces together of what the other people are saying. It would be nice. Now, I’m sure you’re thinking that I have no thoughts for the people who speak other languages, which I would like to say is untrue. I would feel bad if they had to drop the language that they speak and just convert to ours to make it easier for us. Yeah it would suck, and I know that if we wanted French to be the “lingua franca” then I’d probably be against it too. So I don’t expect people to agree with me that this would be a nice thing to have in a world, but I’m just giving my opinion. I’d be against it happening, but I would still make an attempt to learn it, because no matter what the language is that takes over the “lingua franca” I think just having one universal language would make things so much easier.

I think that if everybody in the world use only one universal language, the trait of each culture will decrease or disappear even it makes us mush easier. I am Japanese and I speak Japanese and English, and I can not imagine that my language will disappear. Also, each language has own style. So, when I started to learn English, I could not figure out English style for a long time. Only one universal language in the world is very convenient for us. But, we should find the balance between universal language and other languages. Going to extreme side is not good.
